Prof. Desmond Adair, will deliver a presentation on “An Efficient Method of Solution for the Nonlinear Hinged Helicopter Blade Flapping Equation” on Friday, 06/04/2018 in room 6.105

Presentation Abstract: The nonlinear blade flapping differential equation for a torsionally rigid, rotating hinged rotating helicopter blade is derived without small angle assumptions, i.e., the flap angle and the induced inflow angle of attack can be large. Hence the governing equation, especially the term describing the normal force acting on the rotor disk, is complex and nonlinear. A method of solution for the governing equation known as the Adomian decomposition method is developed here with the various nonlinear terms decomposed as Adomian polynomials. Numerical calculations are performed using the developed nonlinear method and compared with the more typically used calculations made with small angle assumptions in place.
